The Goodies
The Yummy Food
The food was awesome. I ate a gyro and some lemon and garlic fries that satisfied my hunger for the whole day.
A gyro & lemon garlic fries.
Its so interesting to me how food and music are so intertwined with culture and cultural experiences. They really help people to connect across linguistic barriers and bond through flavorful sounds as well as tastes.
Beautiful People
A welcoming atmosphere always sparks my comfortability level. I felt like the festival was similar to a guest experience at a house in which we were visitors being welcomed and comforted.
The Music
The music was very festive and communal based. A lot ofthe children were dressed up and they did a dance for us. I met the most adorable young boy who was teaching me how to say commoon phrases in Greek. One of the new words I learned was "OPA" which is basically the Greek word for what most AUC students would call "turn up". A lot of the dancers were young kids. Heres a short 30 second video of the dancing at the event.
We Arrived
So last Saturday's journey led me to the Atlanta Greek Festival. I never knew there were so many Greeks ina tlanta until that day. A group of friends and I from music class ventrued to the Atlanta Greek festival for our World Music Class assignment. We parked about a 10 minute walk away then hiked on up to the Festival.
I went with two awesome Music majors from Spelman, they were awesome and had such profound musical insight and goals.
